Rat Lab Teams
Three roles, one lab — pick your side and learn the win conditions.
Rat Lab by Evil Science is a session-based Roblox experience built around three opposing (and sometimes overlapping) jobs: Lab Rats, Scientists, and Security. This Teams Hub explains what each role is trying to do, which tools matter first, and where to dive deeper. Whether you want a chaotic escape, a methodical mutation run, or a lockdown chase, start here, then open the role pages linked below.
New to the place? Pair this hub with Getting Started and skim Tools & Unlocks so you understand that session tool unlocks reset each join — nothing permanent carries between servers except account purchases like Forever passes.
The three roles at a glance
Lab Rats — escape and revenge
Lab Rats are the underdogs in the maze. Your headline goal is a three-stage escape: break containment pressure, navigate mid-lab hazards, and finish the final exit route while Scientists poke mutations and Security tries to bag you. Early tools lean toward bite pressure and opportunistic scrapes; later picks can swing into revenge fights if you survive long enough to unlock stronger options in-session.
Survivability tip: grab a vest for +50 HP whenever the round allows. That buffer turns almost-caught moments into second chances, especially against batons and tasers. Full breakdown: Lab Rats and the How to Escape walkthrough.
Scientists — mutations and lab control
Scientists own the experiment fantasy. You push Mutation Index work, colour-coded statuses, and tools like the mutation gun while deciding whether to help, hinder, or harvest Lab Rats. Colour codes on the Mutation Index are not promo codes — do not confuse them with the empty list on the Codes Hub. For colour meanings and lab flow, use Mutations plus the role page Scientists and Scientist Guide.
Scientists still die. Hazmat, armour, and awareness of Security crossfire keep you alive long enough to finish a mutation plan.
Security — capture and lockdown
Security exists to stop the breach. Your kit leans into net, baton, taser, conventional guns, and the long-range sniper when the session unlocks them. Good Security players cut escape routes, call traps, and force Lab Rats into dead ends before stage three. Read Security and the Security Guide for patrol loops and tool timing.
Remember: your strong tools may unlock mid-session and vanish when you leave. Plan the round, do not assume yesterday’s loadout is waiting.
How roles interact
| Matchup | What usually happens |
|---|---|
| Rats vs Security | Chase, net, vest trades, escape routing |
| Rats vs Scientists | Mutation pressure, bite harassment, lab sabotage |
| Scientists vs Security | Contested corridors, friendly-fire risk, shared lockdown goals |
| All three | Mid-lab chaos — traps, armour, and information win |
Use the Roles tier list if you want a ranked view for fun, escape, PvP, or science goals, and the Tools tier list for bite / net / baton / taser / guns / sniper / mutation gun / hazmat / armour / traps priority.
Session mindset (applies to every team)
- Join → scout → unlock — tools progress inside the session only.
- Vest early if contested — +50 HP is boring and correct.
- Call your win condition — escape, capture count, or mutation objective — before you greed side rooms.
- Relearn the map after patches — Rat Lab has been actively updating since launch on 30 July 2026, with Forever passes and a Mutation Codes pass landing mid-September 2026. See Updates.
- Skip shady scripts — there are no verified scripts worth risking your account over; play fair and use Guides.
Where to go next

Pick a side, learn one clean win path, then experiment. Rat Lab rewards players who treat each join as a fresh loadout puzzle — not a permanent RPG inventory.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for Rat Lab players.
How many teams are in Rat Lab?
Three core roles: Lab Rats, Scientists, and Security. Each has different win pressure and tool priorities.
Do tool unlocks save between joins?
No. Session tool unlocks reset each time you join. Plan to re-unlock during the round.
What does the vest do?
The vest grants +50 HP, which helps Lab Rats and anyone expecting baton, taser, or gun pressure.
Which role should beginners pick?
Lab Rats teach the map through the three-stage escape. Security is straightforward if you prefer chase tools. Scientists demand more Mutation Index knowledge.
